2026 Math League International Summer Challenge
The Math League Committee is scheduled to hold the 2026 Math League International Summer Challenge on Sunday, August 16, 2026.

  • Participating Students:
    Students in Grades 1–12 from the United States, Canada, Australia, various Asian countries, and other regions around the world.

  • Challenge Format:
    Written test or online format.

  • Challenge Dates and Times:
    • 5th Grade:
      Sunday, August 16, 2026, 9:00 AM – 11:15 AM (includes a 30-minute break from 9:45 AM to 10:15 AM)
    • 3rd–4th Grade & 6th–12th Grade:
      Sunday, August 16, 2026, 1:00 PM – 3:15 PM (includes a 30-minute break from 1:45 PM to 2:15 PM)
    • 1st–2nd Grade:
      Sunday, August 16, 2026, 4:00 PM – 4:45 PM

  • Challenge Mechanism:
    • Grades 1–2:
      Students will answer approximately 50 multiple-choice questions within 45 minutes.
    • Grades 3–12:
      The challenge is divided into two sections:
      • Individual Round: Students solve 8–12 challenging problems within one hour.
      • Speed Round: Students solve 60 relatively easier questions within 45 minutes. This round emphasizes both speed and accuracy under time pressure.
    • Test Language & Paper Distribution:
      All test papers are in English.
      Separate test papers are provided for each grade from 1 to 7.
      Grades 8–9 share one set of papers.
      Grades 10–12 share another set.
    • Prohibited Materials:
      The use of any other dictionaries, thesauruses, calculators, or supplementary materials (including both paper and electronic formats) is strictly prohibited.
    • Note: The actual number and type of questions may vary.

  • Tutorial Materials:
    To help students prepare for the Challenge, the Math League Committee provides the following tutorial resources:
    • Grades 1–2:
      Each grade level is provided with 8 sets of practice exercises.
      Each set includes approximately 50 multiple-choice questions along with their answers.
    • Grades 3–5:

    • Counting:
      Counting is a fundamental area in modern mathematics and a key component in many mathematical thinking activities. Senior professors from the Math League Committee in the United States have recorded instructional videos that explain essential topics such as the Multiplication Rule, the Inclusion–Exclusion Principle, and related classic examples.

  • Awards:
    The 2026 Math League International Summer Challenge offers the following awards for each grade level:
    • Gold Medal: Top 5%
    • Silver Medal: Top 15%
    • Bronze Medal: Top 30%
    • Proficiency Award: Top 50%
    • Awards are given separately for the Individual Round and Speed Round (Grades 3–12).
    • All other participating students will receive a Certificate of Participation.
    • Students in Grades 8–9 will be grouped together for awards, as will students in Grades 10–12. Students in all other grades will be awarded separately by grade level.

  • Expert Feedback, Student Performance Analysis, and Targeted Practice Questions:
    After the Challenge, each student will receive the following:
    • Written solutions and explanations for all test papers by grade.
    • Challenge statistics, including normal distribution graphs, average scores, standard deviations, and other key metrics.
    • Individual student performance reports (Grades 3–12), detailing each question’s correctness, related knowledge points, difficulty level, and overall accuracy.
    • Targeted practice questions (Grades 3–12) designed to address specific knowledge gaps based on the student’s performance in the individual round.

  • Online Test Equipment:
    Students will need a laptop or tablet with a camera, as well as a smartphone with a camera and microphone, to participate in the Challenge. All responses must be submitted through a web browser on the computer.

    The entire testing process will be monitored and recorded to ensure fairness and integrity.

    Use of any instant messaging tools, such as WeChat, is strictly prohibited during the Challenge.
